Resveratrol and Coronary Heart Disease Facts

Coronary Heart Disease Facts

Some of Coronary heart disease facts are a build up of fat in the blood stream (plaque) a condition which is called arteriosclerosis. This causes the opening in the arteries to get smaller and smaller. As your veins get more narrow, blood flow to the heart muscle will slow down or stop. This will almost always cause chest pain shortness of breath, heart attack, and other arteriosclerosis symptoms.

Coronary heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States for men and women.

What Causes a Heart Attack

Almost all heart disease is caused by a blood clot that stops blood flow in the coronary arteries. When the blood flow is stopped in the heart area it is called a heart attack, when it happens in the brain it is a stroke. When the blood flow is stopped in the heart it starves for oxygen and the heart begins to die.

What is Arteriosclerosis

It's a waxy substance (plaque) that builds up in the walls of your coronary arteries. This plaque is made up of cholesterol and other cells.

A Heart Attack Can Happen Because of Many Reasons Some of them are:

The slow closing of arteries by the buildup of plaque may block one of your coronary arteries that cause blood flow to the heart. A heart attack may occur if not enough blood can flow through this blockage. This usually happens when you are exercising very hard.

The arteries and veins themselves develop cracks and or tears. Blood platelets stick together and form a blood clot (thrombus). A heart attack will most likely occur if this blood clot completely blocks the passage of oxygen-rich blood to the heart.

How Many Die Each Year from CHD

Over 7 million Americans suffer from coronary heart disease (CHD), the most common form of heart disease. This type of heart disease is caused by a narrowing of the coronary arteries through excess cholesterol build up in the arteries themselves.

CHD is the number one killer of both men and women in the U.S. Each year, more than 500,000 Americans die of heart attacks caused by CHD.

Who is at risk for CHD?

Risk factors are conditions that increase your risk of developing heart disease. Some can be changed and some cannot. It is easier than most people think to reduce your risk of Coronary Heart Disease.

Although these factors each increase the risk of CHD, they do not describe all the causes of coronary heart disease even with none of these risk factors, you might still develop CHD.
