Molecules , known as free radicals, contain unpaired electrons, electrons usually come in pairs. The unpaired electrons make free radicals and can cause damage by attacking the components of our cells, and can even cause cancer, heart disease, stroke and speed up the aging process.
How Do We Get Free Radicals?
Where do we acquire free radicals? Some are created as we breathe, exercise, cigarette smoke, air pollution and exposure to UV light. And once free radicals are formed, they can make more free radicals by scavenging electrons from other molecules, creating a domino effect. And this is how antioxidants work in our bodies to help prevent disease.
